Apartment Life

Sometimes I really hate living in an apartment.... like right now. It is midnight on a Sunday (Valentine's Day to be exact) and someone is playing loud music. I would like to get some sleep people! Have some respect and turn down your music after 10pm. Not everyone wants to listen to your bass. I thought this apartment was going to be better than our last one, as far as sound goes, since we haven't had many problems so far, but I think someone new moved in, so we'll se how it goes...

Crazy Couple of Days

The last couple of days have been crazy. On Wednesday, after school, I got to spend some much needed time with Colby. We went to Barnes and Noble and out to lunch. Wenesday night I had my first training class by myself. I think it went pretty well. It was a little short, but I felt like I wasn't bumbling the whole time, which is good. Then, it was inventory time at work. I worked 8pm to 4:30am helping with the inventory. I got to bed about 5am, and had to get up at 9:30, to head over to my practicum. I spent 7 hours over at Head Start. I processed several applications, entered notes into the computer, and did some other stuff.

When I got home that evening, Colby and I decided that it was the best night to go on our Valentines' date. We went and saw Sherlock Holmes. I was a fun movie. I think it is a movie I would watch a multiple times to catch all the little details. Then I came home and crashed for a good 10 hours.

Almost There

I can't believe I'm almost ready to graduate. I have to have my application for graduation in by Friday.... And then all I have to do is pass my classes! This semester is definatly intense, but it's the most 'useful' that I've had so far. I am learning so much about what I'll be able to do once I graduate, how to teach workshops, and I'm taking a fun technology class, where I'm learning how to make webpages, do newsletters, blog, etc. I feel like my practicum will really help me in my job search, because I will have experience. So far I'm liking my practicum, and perhaps I'll be able to find a job as a family advocate. I'm also putting together a portfolio of all my work in the Family Studies major (it's going to be huge!). I'm so glad to have a husband who supports me and helps me so much (and puts up with me). Only 10 weeks until graduation!!!

First Training Class

Tomorrow is the first training class that is officially mine... I'm the teacher and in charge. Scary! I'm excited to get to know students and watch them progress, but I am nervous about knowing everything. Luckily Steph will be sitting through the class with me, so if I run into any problems she'll be there. Hopefully all goes well and I have good people and dogs in the class. If I can do tommorrow pretty good, I'll feel much better about Wednesday, when I have another class, but without Steph there. Wish me luck!

Starting My Practicum

So, this being my senior year at WSU as a Family Studies major, I am doing a 125 hour practicum at Head Start, working with Family Advocates. Yesterday was my first day and it was very interesting, a bit overwhelming, and pretty fun. I will be helping 3 family advocates throughout the next 10 weeks. Yesterday they taught me how to process applications for students applying to be in the Head Start program. I could definitely tell that Head Start is government run/sponsored. There is a lot of repetitive paperwork and double checks. I also learned a lot about the program and what family advocates do. I was able to go on a home visit with one of the advocates to pick up a application. I thought everyone in the office was nice, and I think this is going to be a great experience for me (plus it'll look great on my resume!). Hopefully I'll be able to balance school, work, and my practicum enough so that I can still see my husband from time to time :>

First Post

I've never blogged before, so this will be my first adventure in this realm. Hopefully, I'll be able to use this blog to let my friends and family know what is happening in my life, since they all live so far away (1 hour... :>). There is a lot going on in my life right now, so I shouldn't have to think to hard about what to share. So, here I go...
